What began as a simple way to shake the COVID blues, while concurrently serving the greater good has now morphed into CCS’ signature fundraising event.

The CCS Family Day Weekend Challenge is a coast-to-coast fundraiser where the CCS family in the GTA and our Refugee Sponsorship Training Program trainers based in seven cities across the country get out and celebrate (survive?) in the Canadian winter. Participants are challenged to do any type of outdoors activity for at least 3 hours anytime over the weekend, while raising a minimum of $25.

The idea is two fold:

• Improve mental health outcomes through physical activity.
• Use funds raised to tackle an emerging issue, especially one that is impacting community members made vulnerable through COVID.

This year, the issue we’ve identified is a significant increase in need for wraparound, trauma-informed care for newcomer women facing abusive situations.

At the inaugural event last year, 150 employees and their networks raised over $7,000.
Everybody had fun competing for individual and team prizes and sharing photos of their exploits in the great outdoors over social media.

The event runs February 19-21, 2022.
